After a few missteps, including the launch of Buzz in February 2010, Google is making another foray into social networking market. The release of Buzz was plagued by revelations that the company had, possibly mistakenly, released a great deal of the personal information of its users. The recent introduction of Google+ has generated a considerable amount of excitement, fueled in part by the exclusivity of early users being invitation-only. A few questions still remain. One of the biggest is: can Google+ ever be considered a realistic competitor to Facebook? And secondly: does Google+ offer any real advantages to Facebook when it comes to its interface and privacy concerns?

By this point, many businesses have realised that social media is of the upmost importance when it comes to connecting with both their current and potential future customers. As someone who works in the realm of social media, I have noticed that far too many business currently lacking a strong social following think that it is enough to simply hire a specialist for several hours or a couple of days each month to undertake the task of running Facebook and Twitter accounts on their behalf.
Whilst a specialist will no doubt help direct the social campaign of a company, the rewards of effective use of social media can only be achieved when said businesses are using social accounts on a daily basis to engage with their audiences. I will now explain further using the example of Twitter to illustrate why this is the case.
