Okay class, today we’ll be learning how to install and operate the SEOBook Rank Checker Firefox Plugin in a 4 phase process with 28 simple steps!
Quite seriously though, installing and operating Rank Checker really is a fairly simple process that almost anyone should be able to complete with relative ease, as long as they follow the step-by-step instructions that we're posting below.
In the simplest terms possible, Rank Checker allows you to keep tabs on where your business is ranking for the keywords that you want to capture in search.
Let’s say that you’re running a Ford Dealership in Indianapolis. You'll probably want to check where you're ranking for, “Indianapolis Ford” or “Indianapolis Ford Dealership” in Google Search. But you might also want to keep tabs on where you're ranking for keyword combinations like “car loans Indianapolis”, “Indianapolis car loans”, and any number of other words and combinations of words. If your internet presence is a big part of your business, you might want to keep track of ten or twenty keyword phrases — in some cases you might want to be keeping track of a hundred keyword phrases!
This is where Rank Checker is going to make your life easier.
For readers whose business can benefit from a little bit of independent oversight into their Search Engine rankings — and that's probably almost anyone — Rank Checker is a seriously handy tool. Our Senior SEO Consultant used Rank Checker during his first two years working in the field. He's now upgraded to Advanced Web-Ranker. “The [advanced] software costs about $600 per year,” he tells us, “But it's well worth it.”
Basic Rank Checker, on the other hand, is now available for free download. That's great value by anyone's measurement.
The whole process of downloading it shouldn't take more than a half-an-hour, and how you choose to operate after you've downloaded it is going to be up to your discretion. You can go as in-depth as you want to, but the point is that the process is painless and its potential benefits for your business are probably going to be significant.

Part 1 - Install Firefox
Firefox is a free web browser like Internet Explorer. It is the preferred web browser of most web professionals and is required for the Rank Checker plugin that will make checking Google rankings much less tedious.
In case you haven’t already installed Firefox, go to Mozilla's Firefox page and click on the “Download Now” button. Follow the onscreen prompts to download and install the software.
Part 2 - Install The SEOBook Rank Checker Plugin
Step 1 - Rank Checker is a free Firefox plugin offered by SEOBook that will automatically collect Google rankings for you. Go to the Rank Checker download page and click on the “Download Now” button.
Step 2 - You will then be prompted to sign up for a free account. Enter your email address and pick a username. Unless you’re interested, deselect the checkbox for the SEO mini-course before clicking the “Claim Your Free SEO Tools” button.
Step 3 - You will then get an email almost instantly from SEObook. This email has a link to the login page and your username and password.
Follow the link to the login page (the first link in the email) to go to the login page.
Step 4 - On the login page, enter your username and password from the email and click on the “Log In” button.
Step 5 - You’ll now arrive at a page that can be rather confusing. To get to Rank Checker, you need to click on the “Download $300 worth of SEO tools – for free” link (it’s the first link below the “Your Free Bonuses” headline).
Step 6 - You’re now on the Rank Checker download page. Scroll down this page to the section on Rank Checker and click on the “Download Now” button.
Step 7 - Firefox will ask you if you want to allow SEObook.com to install software on your computer. Don’t worry, it’s safe. Click on the “Allow” button towards the top of the browser window.
Step 8 - You’ll now get a dialogue window with an “Install Now” button. Click on the “Install Now” button (note: this button might be greyed out for 3-5 seconds before you can click on it – this is normal).
Step 9 - An “Add-ons” dialogue window will pop up. You will need to restart Firefox (not your computer) before you can start using Rank Checker, so click on the “Restart Firefox” button.
Good Job! Firefox will restart and install the plugin. You should now see the Rank Checker icon in the lower right corner of the browser frame. Congratulations! You’ve installed Rank Checker.
Part 3 - Setting up Rank Checker for the First Time
Step 1 - To use Rank Checker, simply click on the Rank Checker icon in the lower right corner of the Firefox browser.
Step 2 - Rank Checker will then open up in a separate window. Step 3- Click on the “Add Multiple Keywords” button.
Step 4 - Another window will then open up – the “Add Multiple Keywords” window.
Step 5 - Into the “Domain” field cut and paste the following:
Step 6 - In the keywords field (the big one) cut and paste the following keywords:
above ground pool
above ground pools
above ground swimming pool
above ground swimming pools
swimming pool above ground
swimming pools above ground
pool above ground
pools above ground
Step 7 - Now click the “Add” button; your keywords will be added to the main Rank Checker window.
Step 8 - Once your keywords have been added to the main Rank Checker window, you can click on the “Close” button.
Step 9 - Do NOT hit the “Start” button yet! We want to save this as a “keyword group” so you don’t have to re-enter the keywords every time you check the rankings. Click on the “Save” button next to the icon of the floppy disk. A small dialogue window will drop down. Enter a descriptive name for your keyword group and hit the “OK” button.
Step 10 - Now you can click the “Start” button at the bottom left of the Rank Checker window. Rank Checker will take a minute or two to grab the rankings from Google, Yahoo and Bing.
Step 11 - When Rank Checker has finished collecting the rankings, click on the “Export Results to CSV” button to save the rankings.
Step 12 - A “Save As” dialogue window will pop up. Save the file in a folder you’ll be able to find on your computer. You may want to create a special folder to hold all these CSV files. Give the CSV file a name that includes today’s date. I recommend “YourRegion-MM-DD-YY.csv” (e.g. Kentucky-10-28-10.csv). Make sure to include the date in your filename! This is the only way for Lisa to know when the rankings were collected. Now you can click on the “Save” button. Now email the CSV file to Lisa.
Part 4 - Using Rank Checker Again
Step 1 - Open Firefox and click on the Rank Checker icon in the lower right corner of the Firefox browser.
Step 2 - Since you’ve saved your keyword group, you don’t have to enter all those keywords again. Just click on “Open” next to the icon of the open file folder.
Step 3 - Select your keyword group and click on the “Open” button. All your keywords will be loaded into the main Rank Checker window along with their rankings from the last time you checked.
Step 4 - Click on the “Start” button to update the rankings.
Step 5 - When Rank Checker finishes updating all the rankings, click on the “Export Results to CSV” button.
Step 6 - Save the file. You may want to create a special folder to hold all these CSV files. Give the CSV file a name that includes today’s date. I recommend “YourRegion-MM-DD-YY.csv” (e.g. Kentucky-10-28-10.csv).
